One of Dave's key elements is its divide-and-conquer strategy, which pits attackers against each other, causing their attempts to collapse while honest validators face minimal resistance. Furthermore, launching a Sybil attack against this system is exponentially costly, increasing the latency and resources required for attackers compared to those needed for honest actors. A recent analysis showed that Dave could stop a Sybil attack of 1 million ETH with just 7 ETH from an honest validator.
Another notable feature of this system is the speed with which it resolves disputes. Any realistic number of Sybil attacks can be neutralized in as little as 2 to 5 challenge periods, allowing the network to continue operating smoothly.
In contrast to traditional approaches, Dave does not force honest validators to work together, but allows them to do so securely and without centralized trust. This means that one does not need to be a large investor to participate in protecting rollups, as even smaller actors can actively contribute to maintaining system integrity. In other words, any attempt at fraud in optimistic rollups is doomed to fail, as Dave's mathematical calculations make manipulation a losing bet.
