Years ago, I thought accessibility was only relevant for 0.1% of people. However, working on applications with millions of users, I learned that it affects a much larger number of people and should be a priority when building scalable applications in Angular.

One of the main goals for us frontend software engineers is to ensure that the applications we develop are accessible to as many people as possible. To achieve this, it is key not only to have good design, but also to test the application on multiple browsers, screen resolutions, and orientations.

Web accessibility is the practice of ensuring that there are no barriers preventing interaction with websites for people with physical disabilities, situational disabilities, and socioeconomic restrictions. When sites are well designed and developed, more users have equitable access to information and functionality.

Web accessibility needs can be grouped into several categories:

  • Visual impairment
  • Mobility issues
  • Hearing impairment
  • Seizures
  • Cognitive and intellectual conditions

We often think these issues only affect a small group and do not properly apply accessibility rules. However, these difficulties impact a large number of people. For example, approximately 8% of men have some degree of red-green color blindness, which can cause difficulties in identifying certain elements in a user interface.

Another challenge is for people with motor difficulties, such as essential tremor, a neurological disorder that causes hand tremors and affects nearly 1% of the world's population. Interfaces with buttons that are too small or too close together can make them difficult to use.

Additionally, around 1% of the global population has an intellectual disability, and 10% are on the autism spectrum. For these people, overloaded interfaces, inconsistent navigation, ambiguous icons, and complex language can greatly hinder the user experience.

In a highly competitive market, accessibility is not just an optional improvement, but a key success factor. If an application is not accessible, users will look for an alternative that is. In the development of scalable applications with Angular, accessibility must be treated as an essential process from design to implementation.

At Q2BSTUDIO, a company specialized in development and technology services, we know that accessibility is key to ensuring inclusive and effective digital experiences. We are committed to including these principles at every stage of development, from planning to application maintenance, thus avoiding what is known as accessibility debt.

The goal of developing scalable applications is to create solutions that can be used by as many people as possible. To achieve this, it is essential to have solid design systems and component libraries that ensure accessibility throughout the organization.

Furthermore, this requires training and integrating accessibility into every process that impacts the user interface, from requirements definition to development and maintenance. Only in this way can we ensure that everyone involved works in the same direction.

At Q2BSTUDIO, we strive to develop accessible and scalable technological solutions, ensuring that technology is an inclusive tool for everyone.
