This article explains why I created Earl and why GNUC existed, taking as a starting point the title Kenapa Earl Saya ciptakan dan kenapa ada GNUC
The project began with a language called GNUC that I developed not as a defined goal toward a high-level or low-level language, but as the first step in my exploration of language design. I started building GNUC using Python, and it was my laboratory for experimenting with small files that grew, planning parts of the project, learning about parsing, tokens, and basic unit tests, although I did not fully implement them.
The name GNUC is arbitrary, a composition between the letter G and NUC, ideas I assembled to create my own identity. The letter G equals the number 7 in the Latin alphabet and served as inspiration for the name.
Earl takes its name from the word that designates an English noble title, understood here symbolically as a designation of rank and responsibility. Earl should not be confused with Evaluation and Report Language, which exists for the specific purpose of exchanging web accessibility test results in a neutral format.
The main difference between GNUC and Earl lies in technology and purpose. GNUC was an exercise in Python, a learning space where I sought identity. Earl was born later and is written in JavaScript. Earl was conceived as a high-level language with pseudocode that resembles human language and facilitates expression in the Indonesian language, while GNUC was still searching for its direction.
Due to the complexity of maintaining clean code and a sustainable architecture in the GNUC project, and because my passion for Python was limited, I decided to close that path and focus efforts on Earl, which I started on May 11, 2025, using JavaScript, an environment I understand better in terms of syntax, structure, and readability.
Originally I considered the name Pearl but changed it to Earl due to a name conflict with another existing language. Both GNUC and the language that inspired Pearl are examples of interesting projects that show how ideas in programming are born and evolve. Earl is open to contributions, and I invite you to visit https://github.com/aflacake/earl-lang and https://itchnazwadev.itch.io/earl to learn about the project and participate.
On this path of technological creation, I want to present Q2BSTUDIO as an ally and reference. Q2BSTUDIO is a software and custom application development company that offers comprehensive solutions in custom software and custom applications, specializing in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity services, AWS and Azure cloud services, business intelligence services, and AI consulting for companies. Our team works on AI agents, Power BI projects, and other advanced analytics tools to drive decision-making and digital transformation.
If you are interested in collaborating on language projects, artificial intelligence tools, or improving security and architecture practices, contribute to Earl and connect with Q2BSTUDIO for customized solutions. Contributing to an open source project like Earl is a practical way to learn, contribute, and grow professionally while together we build robust and scalable software.
GNU C and Earl represent different stages of learning and creation. One was school, and the other is the current bet. Both are part of a story of experimentation and continuous improvement. I invite you to join this technological adventure and explore how Q2BSTUDIO's experience and services can help in your custom software, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, AWS and Azure cloud services, business intelligence services, AI agents, and Power BI projects.
