After months of development we present PIDM v1.2.0, a free, open-source, cross-platform download manager built with PySide6 and yt-dlp. This version improves the downloading of videos, streams, and files with optimizations, new features, and fixes that make download management easier for regular and professional users.
PIDM supports fast and reliable regular file downloads, video and stream downloads via yt-dlp, quality selection before downloading, and resuming interrupted downloads. It is lightweight, without ads or unnecessary features, and designed to offer total control over downloads.
Main new features in version 1.2.0: full integration with yt-dlp to capture content from hundreds of sites, stream quality selection before downloading, integration with FFmpeg for automatic audio and video processing, updated Chrome extension to send streams directly to PIDM, and a donations section to support ongoing development.
Additionally, Persian translations have been improved, the about PIDM section was updated with more accurate information, known errors in stream downloads were fixed, leftover .resume files were removed after completed downloads, and stream detection and metadata retrieval were strengthened. The code was also cleaned up and refactored for better maintainability.
Important note about the extension: old versions of the PIDM extension for Chrome will not be compatible with this update. The installer includes the updated extension and it can also be downloaded from the official repository on GitHub and from SourceForge. Notice on Windows: since the installer is not signed, SmartScreen may show a protection message. Clicking More info and Run anyway allows you to continue, which is common with new open-source applications.
