Hi, I'm Asim Baral. Starting tomorrow, I begin my journey to become a cloud engineer. I've decided to stop overthinking, stop scrolling through endless posts about whether this field is secure, and focus on acquiring real skills and taking consistent action.
I currently work as an IT Support Engineer with experience in troubleshooting, M365, and more. Now I'm ready to advance toward cloud engineering and turn my operational experience into cloud solutions.
Summary of my roadmap
Phase 1: Foundational level. Estimated timeline 1 to 2 months. In this stage, I'll focus on AWS fundamentals, Linux and networking, cloud-oriented Python and automation, scripting and text processing, and building a basic portfolio with simple projects that demonstrate practical skills.
Phase 2: Core level. Estimated timeline 3 to 5 months. In this phase, I'll dedicate effort to certifications and hands-on projects. Main objectives: earn the AWS Associate SAA-C03 certification and build practical projects that become part of the professional portfolio.
Phase 3: Specialization. Estimated timeline 6 to 12 months. Here, I'll dive deeper into in-demand technologies and develop an advanced project that demonstrates professional readiness. Topics to study: Terraform or Docker or Kubernetes, basic CI/CD pipelines, and an advanced project that integrates infrastructure as code, containers, and automated deployment.
Deliverables after 1 year: SAA-C03 certification, 4 to 5 portfolio projects, intermediate Linux level, and practical knowledge in Terraform or Docker or Kubernetes. Additionally, I'll have experience building CI/CD pipelines and deploying applications in the cloud.
To stay accountable, I'll publish weekly updates on dev.to with my progress, challenges, and lessons learned. In 1 or 2 months, I'll also start sharing on LinkedIn to connect with the community and seek professional opportunities.
