Last December I wanted to add a small snow animation to a personal project — nothing over the top, just a gentle snowfall in the background to give it a festive winter feel.
I searched through existing options and almost everything I found felt stuck in 2009. They were heavy scripts, based on old techniques, or they forced you to edit CSS and JS files to adjust basic parameters.
So I did what any slightly stubborn developer does: I built it myself. That's how SnowStorm was born, a widget designed to be modern, lightweight, and easy to integrate.
Why another snow effect

What it can do
Colors — classic white flakes, golden flakes, or multicolor confetti.
Shapes — circles, stars, custom emojis, or your own icons.
Speed and density — adjust the falling speed and the number of flakes.
Mouse interaction — flakes can move away from the cursor or react to gestures.
Melting effects — flakes can 'melt' when they touch the ground.
Device orientation — disable the animation on mobile to save resources.
Date range — run it only between specific dates, for example from December 1st to January 1st.

And that's it, the snow will start falling and you can adjust the behavior from the settings panel or by passing parameters.
