Lambda Functions: Same Message

I managed to get my Lambda function working correctly. The overall flow uses boto3 and json in Python, creates a DynamoDB resource and points to the table named nathanferguson-visitorcounter. When the function is invoked, it retrieves the item with key id equal to 1, extracts the visitor counter if it exists or takes the default value of zero, increments it by 1, and finally updates the table with the new value.

In practical terms, the steps are: 1 Get the current counter value from DynamoDB, 2 Increment that value by one, 3 Update the table with the new counter. To make testing easier, I added an API Gateway and now I can invoke the Lambda through a public URL, which simplifies integration with websites and manual testing.

During development, it was necessary to adjust the Python syntax and DynamoDB API calls. For quick tests, I used an empty event represented by {} since the function does not require additional data to run in this scenario.

Next steps include invoking this counter on page load and displaying the value directly on the website so visitors can see the number of visits in real time or updated on each visit.
