Beyond encryption: the real risk of metadata

However, the question of which one is truly secure goes beyond mere end-to-end encryption. Many users assume that if an application encrypts messages, everything is resolved, but the reality is more complex: metadata —who talks to whom, when, from where, and how often— can reveal as much or more than the message content. Therefore, when evaluating platforms like WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram, it is not enough to look at encryption; one must analyze the privacy policy, metadata collection, and underlying architecture.
