In the field of logistics optimization, neural solvers for the multi-attribute vehicle routing problem (MAVRP) have demonstrated remarkable efficiency, competitively reducing operational costs. However, their black-box nature generates distrust among dispatchers, who need to justify every decision before accepting or comparing routes. Recently, an approach has been proposed that simultaneously opens two black boxes: the encoder and the decoder. On the encoder side, linear probes, spontaneous organization metrics, and discovered direction analysis are used to understand how the latent space represents constraints at the graph, node, and edge levels. On the decoder side, three attribution methods—gradient, integrated gradients, and DeepLIFT—feed abductive, contrastive, and counterfactual readings, evaluating the fidelity, concentration, stability, sanity, and actionability of the explanations. Results indicate that the graph's inductive bias improves the predictability of the representation and the sanity of the decoder, while training with Recourse generates policies that expose feasible counterfactuals that Hard-Mask approaches fail to produce. This research opens the door to more transparent routing systems, where artificial intelligence not only optimizes but also justifies its decisions.
For companies managing fleets or supply chains, the ability to validate AI-generated routes is critical. This is where combining AI for business with explanatory methodologies allows adopting solutions without sacrificing human control. At Q2BSTUDIO, we develop AI agents that integrate explainability techniques, adapting to the specific constraints of each operation. Our team also creates custom applications that incorporate neural optimization engines, and we offer custom software to orchestrate everything from data collection to result visualization. Transparency in decision-making is reinforced with business intelligence services such as power bi, which allows analysts to explore suggested routes and understand why each alternative was chosen.
Additionally, the infrastructure behind these solvers often requires cloud services aws and azure to scale training and inference. At Q2BSTUDIO, we manage the deployment of models in the cloud with cybersecurity guarantees, protecting sensitive data on locations and delivery times. Our developments range from implementing custom applications to integrating intelligent routing systems, always prioritizing explainability as a pillar of trust. Thus, we combine the power of neural algorithms with the business need to understand and audit every decision, bridging the gap between the black box and human judgment.
