For a startup to succeed, it is essential that the business idea is really good and that the resulting product meets the needs of consumers (or, at the very least, that it significantly improves upon existing similar products). However, being essential does not mean it is the only thing needed. No matter how good the product and idea are, if there are flaws in communicating what the startup does, failure is almost guaranteed. And it is not surprising that something like this happens. These are the five most common marketing mistakes among startups: 1. Not asking for feedback from consumers. One of the main reasons startups fail is that the product or service they believe in so firmly is not actually something the market demands. It is necessary, if possible before launching products, to seek consumers' opinions: what they think of the idea, what they would change, what they would add, etc. They will be happy to help and, when the product goes on sale, in addition to better meeting user demands, it will also already have a few eager customers ready to buy it. 2. Having an unattractive website. A startup's website has to be designed with one goal in mind: seduction and sales. Any company's online space is like a showcase of what it does and must turn any visitor into a new follower or fan of the product. It should not be the potential customer who has to actively search for information; it should reach them as soon as they land on the website. 3. Not appearing on Google. Or, in other words, not appearing well-positioned on Google. What good is a perfect website if there is no way to reach it? Continuing with the store analogy, it is not much use having a perfect, well-designed showcase for seduction and sales if the store is in an inaccessible location. SEO, social media, and spending a little time learning how Google works and how to appear there are key. 4. Not looking for new customers. A little SEO and being on social media is not enough; you have to actively go after those potential customers. To do this, it is necessary to create well-segmented campaigns targeting those users you are sure would be customers if they knew about your startup. And when those users have already been captured, keep looking for more. 5. Not measuring success or setting objectives. Which campaigns or actions work best? Which ones don't? By analyzing the results of each campaign you will know what has been useful and what hasn't, thus being able to repeat what is working and stop investing in what is not winning you customers
