Cybersecurity researchers have identified a new malicious campaign that uses pirated software versions as bait to distribute stealer malware such as Lumma and ACR Stealer.
The AhnLab Security Intelligence Center (ASEC) has detected a notable increase in the distribution of ACR Stealer since January 2025, indicating a growing threat to users who download modified software from untrusted sources.
A notable feature of this malware is the implementation of a technique called dead drop, which allows hiding and distributing the malicious payload more efficiently, making detection and analysis difficult.
