Cienciados mobile app

The Technological Institute of Optics, Color and Image (AIDO) of Valencia, Spain, has designed a mobile application called "Cienciados" to promote interest in science and technology, which consists of a game in which users compete online to see who knows more about science. "Cienciados" will be developed for the Android, iOS and WindowsPhone platforms and the devices from which it will be accessible will be Android, iOS (iPhone) and Windows Phone phones, as well as Android tablets and iPad. This 'app' will teach science through the game play with science. It will be available in Spanish and English and contestants will have to take turns answering questions related to Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Technology, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Humanities and Social Sciences, according to a statement from this technological institute based in the Valencian town of Paterna. One of the most novel aspects of the platform is that it will have a system so that any person can send their questions to "Cienciados", which will be reviewed by a scientific committee and published in the application with a mention of the user who sent it. In this way, in addition to disseminating scientific culture in an enjoyable and simple way through play, it aims to encourage the participation of researchers in the dissemination of the results of their innovations. This initiative has the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), within the Scientific Culture and Innovation Program of the year 2013.
