It seems that international pressures will facilitate the United States abandoning unilateral control of ICANN in domain management. The entity that manages domains at a global level is called ICANN, it is the regulatory body for all domain endings that do not correspond to a specific territory. For example, .com, .org and .biz all the new domains that are appearing such as .travel, .photos, .shoes… already fully customized software company. The fact is that since its creation ICANN has been controlled and regulated from the United States, where the Internet initially arose. That is why the North American country is responsible for managing domain assignment mechanisms, and incidentally taking in substantial revenue from registrations and renewals. The international community does not look so favorably upon that control of a single country over something as critical and lucrative as domain assignment. This process has been catapulted perhaps due to the espionage problems of the United States against other countries and individuals. However, the most worrying fact is that, in recent years, various movements occurred whereby the United States systematically carried out the blocking of domains for various matters that escape international laws and obey the interpretations of that single country. We refer to intellectual property, spam, etc. It is feared that this control will serve to derive benefit beyond the economic, limiting freedoms. Fadi Chehade, president of ICANN, declared that a long process is beginning, which they view favorably. They are not yet clear on the bases of this power shift and whether it will be the United Nations that takes responsibility for ICANN, as many countries had requested. The truth is that it is great news for the international community and freedoms on the Internet, thanks above all to the pressures of the European Union. Although it is still just an intention and there are no concrete actions on the roadmap to free ICANN. We will remain attentive.
