AI GOVERNANCE
Cursor, Claude Code and Copilot: using them without everyone shipping their own way
Coding agents are the best news for a development team and the worst place to lose control: each person installs their own, works on their own branch, picks their own model and deploys when it suits them. The result is fast and hard to audit.
The problem is not the tool, it is the disorder
Nobody argues with the productivity: a well-used coding agent writes tests, proposes refactors and handles repetitive work better than an afternoon of copy and paste. The problem starts when every developer picks their own tool, model and workflow, and nobody can answer which code was generated with which assistance.
In a company with several people and several products, that disorder turns into debt: different conventions, dependencies nobody reviewed, credentials pasted into a chat so the agent has context, and manual deployments that depend on someone remembering the right command.
The other extreme does not work either. Banning coding agents takes the team back to a slower pace and pushes usage onto the personal laptop, where there are no traces and no data control. The right question is not which tool is allowed, but under which rules the work happens.
A governed lane lets each person use the assistant that suits them while fixing what is common: repository, review, tests, environments and a single way to publish to Test and Production.
THE CHALLENGE
The assistant writes, but nobody owns the outcome
Cursor and Claude Code speed up a lot of real work. The problem appears when what they generate reaches production without review, tests or an owner.
Everyone their own way
Each developer uses the assistant with their own rules, so the resulting code is inconsistent and hard to maintain as a team.
Tool dependency
If keys, quota or the provider change, part of the workflow stops because there is nothing of your own underneath.
Uncontrolled target
The assistant runs commands and deploys wherever it can: without separate environments or permissions, any mistake reaches users directly.
APPROACH
We do not compete with the assistant: we put it under control
The team keeps using the tool it already masters; what changes is the framework it works in and where its output goes.
Diagnose the current flow
We review how the team works with assistants today: what they may read, where they write and what is reviewed before merging.
Own, stable environment
Repositories, environments and deployment on your infrastructure, so the flow does not depend on today's quota or provider.
Shared rules
Code conventions, mandatory tests and peer review: the assistant brings speed, the team brings judgement.
Measure what ships
What reached production, what was reverted and how much time was really saved: without metrics, adoption is an opinion.
DELIVERABLES
Speed without giving up control
The team keeps the tool it likes and gains what it lacks: structure, traceability and ownership.
Governed workflow
Branches, review and automated tests that apply the same whether a person or an agent wrote the code.
Own infrastructure
Repositories and environments under your organisation, with reproducible deployment and the ability to roll back.
Assistant usage guide
What an agent may read, which data stays out and how its contribution is documented in every change.
Real productivity report
Time saved, defects introduced and cost per change, so you can decide with data whether to expand usage.
TRUST
Adopting new tools without losing judgement
We have been integrating development tools into enterprise teams since 2008, with offices in Barcelona and Madrid and remote collaboration across Spain, Europe, LATAM and the US. Secure development practices and ENS awareness.
- A coding-agent usage policy: what is allowed, with which data and with which review.
- A single publishing lane that does not depend on each developer's tool.
- Citizen as the alternative for non-developer employees: they build their app without touching the product repository.
- End-to-end evidence: request, approved plan, tests and deployment, all recorded.
