Managing Supabase projects with Claude Code and Composio MCP

In my latest post, I explained how I got tired of navigating dashboards and started managing databases with Claude Code and Composio MCP. It worked really well, and I know many people use other providers like Supabase. Here, I present a version for Supabase, because although Supabase is excellent, small actions like creating tables, updating schemas, or adjusting RLS policies from the dashboard become frustrating very quickly.

Supabase MCP by Composio is a tool interface that exposes the Supabase API in a format that language models like Claude can understand and use. MCP allows describing tools as APIs or CLI commands so agents can use them as real assistants. With Supabase MCP, Claude can create or update tables, functions, configure SSO providers, and many other actions directly from natural language prompts.

And why use Composio when other MCPs are available? Composio acts as an integration layer that manages connections and authentication. If you are building a SaaS and want your users to manage Supabase projects through an AI agent, you could integrate the MCP directly, but you would have to handle authentication, sessions, token storage, and write tool specifications by hand. Composio simplifies all of that: you authenticate, choose Supabase, and the tools become available to Claude or other agents without extra effort.

Basic setup: there are two ways to connect Claude with Supabase MCP. One quick option is to use the Composio MCP page, generate the required command, and run it in your terminal to register the client. After copying the configuration file to the local project and starting Claude, the same interface will ask you to authenticate the MCP with an authorization URL, and that's it—you can now use the tools from the agent. The second option is to create a custom MCP in the Composio dashboard, select the specific tools and permissions you need, generate the connection command, and authorize the integration to have fine-grained control over what the agent can do.

Once configured, you can ask Claude to perform specific tasks on Supabase using natural language. Practical examples that work well: create a Supabase project with a specific name, add a comments table with id text user_id columns, run SQL queries to retrieve rows, or add an RLS policy that only allows the owner to update their comment. To optimize token usage, it is advisable to explicitly indicate the MCP tool you want to use in each prompt to prevent the agent from trying to guess and consuming more resources.

These workflows can be run from Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, or integrated with development tools. The advantage is that repetitive and infrastructure tasks that normally require multiple clicks in a dashboard are now done with simple natural language instructions, speeding up development iterations and reducing friction.

At Q2BSTUDIO, we offer professional services that complement and enhance this type of integration. We are a custom software and application development company specializing in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud solutions. We design custom software and custom applications aimed at solving specific business needs, integrating AI agents, artificial intelligence solutions for companies, and business intelligence services to obtain actionable insights.
