Artificial-Intelligence-

Let's talk about things. There are things you need. There are things you don't need. There are things you don't know you need. And there are things you don't know you don't need. Among what really matters is something I perhaps didn't expect at first: lightning-fast AI audio transcriptions.

Things you need

When I was a student, I recorded many classes and never listened to them again. In consulting, recording important meetings allowed me to rescue ideas that would otherwise have been lost. Recently, I needed to understand how a project I was learning about for ClaudePortable.dev worked, and I didn't want to spend an hour listening to an entire video. I looked for a fast and accurate transcription and discovered that many options still used outdated models. When I found out that Groq runs whisper-v3-large, I realized the potential: all those accumulated hours of audio could be transformed into text in seconds.

Things you don't need

This is the fifth project of the year for me after building an MCP server on Supabase and an integration to run Claude Code from Slack. Experience taught me to avoid unnecessary features, difficult-to-maintain technologies, and complicated architectures. The rules were simple: a compelling reason to exist, a stable stack, and a core functionality that works flawlessly. The user experience must be good enough for me to use it myself.

After the launch, I am satisfied. Typist transcribes an hour of audio in less than 15 seconds, much faster than other services and with a slight accuracy advantage thanks to Groq's whisper-v3-large model. The interface is clear and reliable; both video and audio work with reasonable error handling.

Things you don't know you need

What few anticipate when starting a product is that technology is no longer the main differentiator. What is truly decisive is distribution from day one, speed as a key feature, and accepting the time constraints of development. You can build the best transcription in the world, but if no one knows about it, it doesn't exist. And speed changes behaviors: no one knows they need a transcription in 15 seconds until they try it.

Things you don't know you don't need

With Typist now available, you can stop waiting 10 minutes or more for a result. There's no need to manually transcribe that two-minute stretch you think will be quick. You don't need very expensive subscriptions if you only transcribe occasionally. Typist offers immediate transcriptions and a free plan designed for real human use.

The stack that makes it possible

In 2025, anyone can replicate the infrastructure; the real competitive advantage is speed, distribution, and the discipline not to build everything. Typist's stack includes a React SPA, a Hono API, all served from Cloudflare Workers, Cloudflare Workflows to orchestrate the process, Groq for transcription with whisper-v3-large, D1 as the main relational database, and R2 for media storage. Better Auth manages authentication and future integration with Stripe.

About Q2BSTUDIO

Behind Typist is Q2BSTUDIO, a custom software and application development company specializing in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. At Q2BSTUDIO, we design custom software solutions, custom applications, and artificial intelligence implementations for businesses. We offer AWS and Azure cloud services, business intelligence services and Power BI projects, AI agent development, and AI consulting for companies. Our approach combines technical expertise with pragmatism to launch products that clients actually use.

Early usage patterns

Some trends we are seeing: students transcribing semesters in minutes, podcasters creating searchable archives, researchers processing interviews at scale, and non-native speakers using transcriptions to better understand content. Each use case opens opportunities, but we maintain focus on the core promise: the fastest and most accurate transcription available.

What's next

There is no clear map for what comes next. The fun begins now: learning what users do with that speed. We can iterate based on real usage without losing the simplicity that made the product possible.

Try it yourself

The best way to understand Typist is to try it. Upload any audio or video file and see how it is converted into formatted text in seconds. Visit iamtypist.dev to get started. If you are looking for custom software development, custom applications, artificial intelligence solutions, or cybersecurity consulting and AWS and Azure cloud services, contact Q2BSTUDIO to talk about your project.
